Big's Fundraiser for David Merey
We are asking your help to dramatically impact the life of David Merey.
Harvey first met him in 2018 when he was his guide as he ran a 100 km journey run along the coast of Haiti. In May 2019, Harvey returned to Haiti with Greg Armstrong and his wife Kelly for a water project working on and repairing well pumps with Run4Water. His positive attitude and desire to help others really stood out. Unfortunately, since our visit, Haiti has fallen into even greater economic and political distress.
David currently fishes daily just to get enough to survive. His faith and relationships with others sustain him, but survival is difficult. There are no safety nets in Haiti. David shares, "Since the assassination of our president, everything has changed and everything has become much more difficult for us. The gang phenomenon in the country has made things worse. It puts us in a precarious situation where almost all the roads connecting us to the capital are occupied by gangs. There is almost nothing that works for young people in my community. So, we decided to do something that could help us economically to overcome these difficult times. The idea is to help me own a three-wheeled motorcycle taxi.
Our goal is to help David by raising the price of the new vehicle including customs, transport, and licensing fees. The total cost is $4,196.00. This will be a life-changing opportunity for David. It will afford him the opportunity to help provide for his family and a reliable source of income.
